Activity Objectives
  • Using a Wakelet or Flipgrid template, students will reflect on and share joyful moments from the summer, and think about their hopes for the upcoming school year
  • Through this activity, students will learn about their classmates’ experiences and ways they can support others in achieving their goals

This activity supports the development of the following social-emotional skills: relationship skills, responsible decision-making, self-awareness, and social awareness.

Create

Engage students in a conversation about their summer. You might ask:

  • What was your favorite moment or experience during the summer?
  • Is there something that you’re proud of accomplishing?
  • Are there any books, television shows, movies, or games that you enjoyed?
  • What is something that you’re looking forward to this year?

Using the Flipgrid or Wakelet links below, have students share their summer highlights with each other, as well as their hopes and goals for the upcoming school year.

Share

Share your class’s reflections with your Empatico partner class, or facilitate a live virtual exchange where students can share their summer highlights with each other and ask questions to learn more about each other’s experiences.

Reflect

Guide students through a post-activity reflection by asking the following questions:

  • Did you notice any similarities or differences between your summer experiences?
  • Why is it important to practice gratitude for joyful moments and set goals for ourselves?
  • How can you support and encourage each other In achieving your goals this year?
Did you finish this activity? We'd love your input.
