Activity Partner
Total time estimate:
15-20 minutes
Activity Objectives
  • Students will design a special outfit for a classmate by identifying their unique needs and preferences, and highlighting something special about them
  • Then, students will share their creations with their partner, and express gratitude for each other's creativity, thoughtfulness, and hard work
Materials
  • Paper, pencils, crayons, markers, paint, and other art materials

This activity supports the development of the following social-emotional skills: social awareness and relationship skills.

Design

Ask students to pair up with a classmate, and ask the following questions:

  • What is your favorite color?
  • What is your favorite thing to do outside?
  • What are your favorite types of clothing?
  • What special features do you wish your clothes had?
  • What is something that you are proud of?

With this information, students should use the handout below to design a special outfit that their friend would appreciate, which also highlights something special about the other person (e.g., something they are good at).

Share

Ask students to record a Flipgrid video together where they exchange their designs. Make sure they keep their designs a secret prior to pressing "record" - it should be a surprise!

Reflect

Guide students through a post-activity reflection by asking the following questions:

  • How did you decide what clothing to design for your friend?
  • Why do you think your friend will appreciate the outfit that you designed for them?
  • What do you appreciate most about your friend, and their design for you?
  • How did this activity help you practice gratitude for each other?

This activity was created in partnership with the Merrills EDU.
