Students create and share recipes for kindness - what are the essential ingredients of compassion?
This activity supports the development of the following social-emotional skills: social awareness and relationship skills.
Engage students in a discussion about what kindness means to them, and ways they have experienced kindness in the past. Then, ask them about the “ingredients” of kindness. What are the actions, values, and qualities that help us treat others with respect and compassion? For example, perhaps we need “a teaspoon of understanding” or “a sprinkle of forgiveness”.
Have students (either individually or in pairs/groups) create recipes for kindness which combine these ingredients in a creative way (e.g., as a poem, recipe card, poster, etc.). Students’ projects can be written down or completed digitally using a tool such as Flipgrid or Wakelet.
